Curator-Founders Park / Broadgreen House

Are you the type of person who loves to visit museums and historical sites while on holiday? Do you have a passion for revealing the fascinating details of people’s lives that lie hidden within everyday objects?

Nelson City Council is looking for a Curator to manage and interpret the heritage collections at Founders Heritage Park (FHP) and Broadgreen Historic House (BH). This role will require you to have both a leg in the past, and an eye towards the future as you will be responsible for not only the management of historical collections from the 1880’s to 1930’s, but creating displays and exhibitions in response to Founders Heritage Parks Collection Policy.

You will be responsible for:

• Protection and management of the heritage collection
• Research and creation of stimulating displays for visitor education and enjoyment
• Development and co-ordination of exhibitions
• Providing advice to customers on heritage items
• Providing back-up for other staff members – including reception.

To succeed in this role you will be a practical self starter, be flexible, have good personal prioritisation and time management skills, have the ability to relate to a wide range of people, and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Previous experience in the management, conservation and interpretation of historical items (including antiques and clothing) is essential, and a relevant tertiary qualification is also desirable for this position.

This is a 28 hour per week position on a roster, including some weekends.
