DIRECTOR/CEO
VOYAGER NEW ZEALAND MARITIME MUSEUM
Iconic Tourist Attraction and Cultural Institution
Strategic Leadership Role
Auckland
Our nation’s spirit of exploration and the remarkable stories of New Zealand's rich maritime heritage are revealed through the innovative displays, events and programmes of the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum, including the stunning exhibition, Blue Water Black Magic – A Tribute to Sir Peter Blake exhibition. This development, rebranding to Voyager and the upgrading of the museum’s Edmiston Gallery of Maritime Art, collectively costing $10 million, has placed Voyager in a greatly improved position in the museum field and as an Auckland waterfront visitor attraction.
The cultural and heritage value of Voyager’s displays and the attractiveness and educational value of its presentations is being further enhanced by a Master Plan based development programme that is both exciting and challenging for the organisation and greater Auckland. The Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum Board now seeks a visionary Director/CEO to lead the continuing growth and development of this iconic tourist attraction and cultural institution.
The Director/CEO will be a strong leader who can manage a team of people, including more than 160 rostered volunteers. He/she will possess an interest in showcasing our maritime heritage and have excellent financial and commercial management skills to deliver significant return and value from the available resources.
Curatorial stewardship of its many treasures and the intrinsic value they have for New Zealand will be shepherded by a Director/CEO who is an effective presenter and communicator with proven leadership qualities and who can build relationships with the new Auckland Council and other external stakeholders who can assist in maximising the future potential of the organisation.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity, especially during Auckland’s amalgamation into a Super City, for a Director/CEO who, with the backing of a strategic and cohesive Board and the committed support of a passionate and motivated staff, can enhance Voyager’s world-class status and reputation.
Directors/CEOs or senior managers with leadership experience within the cultural sector should address their confidential expressions of interest to Stephen Ellett of Signium Executive Search International at sellett@executivesearch.co.nz, by mail to PO Box 4046, Auckland 1140 or by telephone +64 9 309 0886.
