Ahston Wylie Charitable Trust Awards
These awards aim to recognise excellence in authorship for literature in the mind, body and spirit, or ‘new-age’ genre.
Two awards are offered. An award of $10,000 will be given to the winning author of the Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust Unpublished Manuscript, and another award of $10,000 will be awarded to the winner of the Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust Book Award.
Spokesperson for the Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust, Adonia Wylie, says the purpose of the award is to encourage the growth of the spiritual literature genre in New Zealand. Ms Wylie says the Trust’s founder, Ashton Wylie, was an Auckland businessman with spiritual awareness at the core of his interests, particularly in the area of personal development and positive relationships.
“In keeping with his legacy, the Book Awards were established to encourage the expansion of the mind, body and spirit literature genre in New Zealand. We are looking for works which encompass a wide range of beliefs, and have the power to enlighten, amuse and educate the reader, while having a profound impact on the reader’s spiritual thoughts and opinions.”
The winner of the 2010 Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust Book Award was Lloyd Geering’s Such is Life! A close encounter with Ecclesiastes.
The deadline for unpublished manuscripts is 31 March 2011, and should be between 20,000 and 100,000 words in length. The deadline for the published book award is 31 May 2011. Books must have been published between 1 April 2010 and 31 March 2011.
