Job description: 

We wish to appoint an editor to join our skilled Editorial Services team. The appointment will be for a fixed term to the end of December 2011. The work of the team is an essential part of the process for ensuring high-quality legislation and the team is committed to maintaining high standards.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Services team include:

∙ proofreading draft legislation and other office publications in accordance with established style
∙ providing constructive feedback to the law drafters and others
∙ advising on style and format requirements for legislation
∙ updating work tracking databases and in-house manuals
∙ compiling and proofreading indexes for annual bound volumes of legislation.

The ideal applicant will have:

∙ a background in editing and publishing
∙ proofreading skills of a high standard that include an excellent attention to detail
∙ a sound knowledge of the English language and grammar
∙ the ability to work quickly and accurately and to meet deadlines
∙ the ability to communicate effectively, confidently, and sensitively
∙ the ability to apply sound judgement in the development and interpretation of guidelines and manuals
∙ project management experience for production of in-house manuals
∙ experience in using a range of computer applications and the confidence to learn new applications
∙ an interest in legislation and the law-making process.
