The Westport News (est 1871) is one of New Zealand's few remaining independently-owned newspapers. It publishes five days a week, serving a population of about 8700.

Our busy newsroom employs two general reporters and a chief reporter. They also write and voice news bulletins for our wholly-owned subsidiary, Coast FM.

Your hours of work would be 8am-4.30pm or 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, with a limited amount of after-hours work.

Buller offers a temperate climate, laid-back lifestyle and outdoor adventure opportunities in New Zealand's most scenic region. The district includes two national parks and many beautiful beaches, including three at Westport.

Westport has a $16 million sports centre with indoor courts, swimming pools, a gym and artificial hockey pitch. A performing arts centre and cinema opened last year.

Buller's main industries are coal and gold mining, farming, cement-making, fishing and tourism. The West Coast is one of New Zealand's top economic performers.

This position would suit a new graduate, or a more experienced journalist seeking a new challenge in a small community.

Applicants must have a Diploma of Journalism or equivalent.
