Political Reporter
If you enjoy leaving the opposition in your trail, can put the tough questions to our political leaders, regularly notch-up exclusives and hate finishing second - we would love to hear from you.
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate mid to senior level journalist to join the Fairfax Multi-Media Political Bureau at the parliamentary press gallery in Wellington.
You will be required to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, covering political news and issues affecting the nation.
To work for the Fairfax political bureau you will need to be a proven news breaker capable of generating exclusive and agenda setting stories.
You will write for NZ’s top news website, Stuff - before developing angles to take the story on for the largest network of daily papers in the country. You will be a first-class interviewer, have strong writing skills and be fast and tireless in producing a range of stories each day. This is not a job for those new to the industry.
You’ll report to the political editor of the bureau and will be required to work variable hours, including weekends and public holidays. Travel is also a requirement and you should expect to spend time out of Wellington regularly on assignment, particularly in election year.
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.
