David Ward

I am a composer and performer who has worked in many different musical settings: jazz, blues, funk, alt-country, improvised music, Indian classical, Serbian gypsy music, and original projects. I play acoustic, electric and cigar-box slide guitar and 4, 5 & 8 string banjos.

    A graduate of the Wellington Jazz School, David has worked in many and varied musical settings. His main instruments are guitar and banjo and he composes music for theatre and original projects.

    A long relationship has been with INDIAN INK THEATRE Company performing in NZ, Australia, U.S.A, Singapore and Germany for the critically acclaimed theatre shows KRISHNANS DAIRY and The CANDLESTICKMAKER. In 2008 he composed the music to their 4th work THE DENTIST'S CHAIR.

    In 2010 David composed and performed the music for Indian Ink's New show THE GURU OF CHAI, for which he won the CHAPMAN TRIPP MOST OUTSTANDING COMPOSER 2010. He has since performed the show in NZ, Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore and Los Angeles,Nashville and St Louis.

    In 2009 David collaborated with Andrew McMillan, Chris O’Connor and John Bell to record the “World Class” soundtrack for Red Leap Theatre’s production of THE ARRIVAL, which premiered in the Auckland Arts Festival. It has since been performed at festivals in Hong Kong and Sydney and in the 2010 NZ International Arts Festival.

    In 2011, David collaborated with Peter Daube on creating an immersive theatre show called WHEEL OF EXPERIENCE, for the Random Acts Festival.
