NEEDSer ~ Native-English Editing Service
My name is Ragini Werner. I am a NZ editor, living in NL for 30+ years, and a specialist in fixing Dunglish (English with a Dutch accent). I can help you remove lingering traces of Dunglish from all your English texts.
No matter the level of English required -- from easy to esoteric -- I can serve your needs as writer and the needs of your readers in New Zealand and all over the world.
Mijn naam is Ragini Werner. Ik ben redactrice, afkomstig van NZ en nu 30+ jaar woonachtig in NL. Ik ben gespecialiseerd in het corrigeren van Engelstalige teksten die door Nederlanders zijn geschreven. - NEEDSer ~ Ragini Werner
NEEDSer is run by me, Ragini (Gini) Werner. I grew up in New Zealand* and via sojourns in Sydney and London, moved to the Netherlands in 1980. I have worked for 20 years in scientific, technical and medical publishing with Elsevier Science, a division of Reed Elsevier before establishing NEEDSer. The major portion of my time at Elsevier was spent working in corporate communications. Since 2000, I have gained extensive experience in language-editing papers in a wide range of academic disciplines. I have also edited text books and bestsellers in economics, business management and sales management for Wolters-Noordhoff and ISAM, the Institute for Sales and Account Management linked to the high-ranked Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
I am a member of the Society of English Native-Speaking Editors (SENSE), the association for English-language professionals working in the Netherlands and also belong to the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), the internationally oriented community of English-language professionals who share an interest in science communication and editing.
I dropped out of Auckland University in 1972, before completing a BA in English to pursue a career as a professional actress, and acted with the Living Theatre Troupe, Central Theatre, Gateway Players, Unity Theatre and Court Theatre, amongst others. Many years later I trained as a journalist with the London School of Journalism (1987-1989). More recently I graduated 'cum laude' in Editing Skills (2007-2008) at the ITV Hogeschool voor Tolken & Vertalers, the Institute for Interpreters and Translators in Utrecht. My interests include books, the arts and dance, and writing. My short fiction has been published in literary magazines in the United States, New Zealand, Belgium and the Netherlands. I am (still) writing a full-length novel.
*I was born Dutch in Indonesia and arrived in Dunedin in 1958 as a little girl. Since those early years in Dunedin I have lived in Whangarei, Auckland, Rotorua, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Wanaka. I now live in the far north of the Netherlands close to the birthplace of Abel Tasman. If you would like to know more about my personal ties with New Zealand, see: My Kiwi Connection on Expatica.com at http://bit.ly/j1h41q
