Certificate in Commercial Design
My design career began in 1989 working as a graphic artist in the screen printing industry.
Now, 20 years on, I have gained vast knowledge from working in the print, publishing, film and television industries. On an artistic level I have co-ordinated community arts projects, taken on advisory roles representing tangata whenua in in community arts development and project mananged events highlighting strong Mäori arts component for tourism industry. I have engaged local communities in Mäori arts practice, planned promoted and produced local arts exhibitions, and partcipated in events as an exhibiting artist demonstrating various artforms both in New Zealand and overseas. I balance my creative practice, design work and various projects by having a strong work ethic. I'm a multi faceted artist designer. I care about honoring the source of inspiration, how the idea will interact with materials, the process and how the works can evolve into other forms and ideas.
I see my cultural heritage as something uniquely special that should be preserved, perpetuated, and positively promoted through the generations, while remembering the essence of it's traditional source.
