Researched, wrote and published the book 'Destination New Zealand' a comprehensive guide to Northland for Bluewater cruisers. The book contains Hydrographic charts to the East Coast of Northern New Zealand Solicited sponsorship for the initial preparation and then from local business houses in Whangarei, Bay of Islands and Auckland for the trade index. Vancouver School Board, Continuing Education.Ceramic & Sculpture. Instructor. Taught all age groups from beginners to advanced. Successfully introduced a program for special needs people, especially sight impaired.Overseer of implementation of new Health and Safety regulations for Secondary School Art Rooms in Schools throughout British Columbia.
Founder and Manager of Wild Oats Studio, an artists cooperative in central Vancouver, Canada. As well as maintaining my own exploration in ceramics and sculpture, I ran a series of workshops for adults in sculptural form and technique. Brought in visiting artists from the community to co- teach workshops in other disciplines in the visual arts.
Organized two big community events, 'A Gathering of Spirits' in November 1990, and a 'Redezvous of Sight and Sound' in April 1991. Both of these events were successful, non-profit cultural events.Sailed the Yacht 'Muktukali' from Vancouver to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwai) in the Northwest of British Columbia with two crew to research the mythology of the Haida people for my large sculptural projects that were completed the following year. Documented the journey and gave presentations in Vancouver after returning.
Co-founded 'Raku Arts' Built an innovative portable kiln on the back of a trailer which was taken on-site for private and public functions. Funded by a grant from the British Columbia Small Business Fund, pots and face masks could be made, glazed and fired on the same day. Main attraction in the courtyard of Granville Island Market in Vancouver during the annual Arts Week, September 1988. A video production was made of the process for publicity purposes.
Designed and oversaw the construction of 'Four Seasons' restaurant in Osaka, Japan. Was appointed assistant manager upon opening.
Opened 'Rokko Togei Sanso'a ceramic workshop on the mountain behind Kobe City in Japan. Here we hosted daily and weekend workshops in Handbuilding and Raku to Japanese and foreign tourists. Produced ceramic ware for boutique shops in Japan.
Worked as full-time employee for SO TO EN, a famous pottery in Shigaraki, Japan. Experienced all aspects of traditional and modern techniques in ceramic processes including regularly firing an eleven chamber Noborigama kiln, production and special wheelwork, and worked with Teabowl masters on Hand Building and casting techniques.
Taught English as a second language to Japanese students part time. Translated and proofed Japanese to English - Manuals, guides books, Technical data and product advertising.
Overseas liason officer for a Japanese company developing a tourist venue in the Phillipines.
Australian Overseas Development Fund. Volunteer to the Village of Kesongan, Java. Assigned to build a gas kiln.
