Samuel Holloway

Samuel Holloway (b. Auckland 1981) is an Auckland-based composer and teacher, now lecturing at The University of Auckland and Unitec. He studied at The University of Auckland with John Elmsly and Eve de Castro-Robinson where he was awarded his BMus (Hons) and his MMus with first class honours.

His musical work has been performed by prominent artists and ensembles, including the New Zealand Trio, 175 East, STROMA, the Luxembourg Sinfonietta and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and broadcast in New Zealand and overseas.

In 2006 he was awarded the Composers Association of New Zealand Trust Fund Award, and in February 2007 was awarded the 19th ACL Yoshiro Irino Memorial Prize at the Asia Pacific Festival. In November 2007 he represented New Zealand at the ACL/ISCM World Music Days in Hong Kong, and was awarded first prize in the ACL Young Composer Competition for his work Stapes.

From July 2007-July 2008 Samuel was the visiting Composer in Residence at the Lilburn Residence in Thorndon, Wellington. In February 2009, he was awarded an APRA Professional Development Award.

Samuel is an executive committee member of the Composers Association of New Zealand, and is a current co-convenor of the CANZ Nelson Composers Workshop.
