It's self-titled she is quite new on the NZ music scene, she's chosen a beautiful range of songs which she's written herself, and I think we're going to hear a lot more from her.' www.bigpod.co.nz/Default.aspx?tms_id=31&tabid=56 (23/04/07 Anzac Special-Fresh Sounz three quarters of way down page) LAURA EVANS 'Funk soul singer songwriter infused with the freshness of indie-pop' Take a slice of Alicia Keys with a hint of Norah Jones, throw in a dash of Brooke Fraser and you'll get 'LAURA EVANS', the newest singer songwriter sensation emerging in the New Zealand music scene with passion to entertain and songs to match. 'From a young age music has played such a vital role in my life', she says 'and I want to share that gift of music with others'. Music is no stranger to Laura, who has played many instruments from a young age, and this has helped to envelope her style and influence what she does today. Attending Performing Arts School, Excel in 2002 straight from college has helped to give Laura the foundations in which she has been able to identify and relate to people through music. Through her songs she shares what is personal to her in hope of sharing some light to other people and situations they go through, and that they are not alone in it. 'I find music such a unique way of expression, and I want to write in a way that for some it can be taken at one level, or for other people they can read into it, getting their own meaning from it. I like to leave a sense of mystery, in that people can make their song their own in how they want to relate to it'. www.universalrecords.co.nz/solo.htm Debut EP album featured number 29 on the Indie Top 50 Independent Music New Zealand charts January 2007 www.indies.co.nz/chartarchive-Jan07.html Hi Laura thank you so much for playing here I loved it could you please come back! Sometime soon! Steven C Horton Reviews from 'Rip It Up' magazine by Lyndon Walker (New Zealand's Most Read Music Magazine) quotes in regards to On The Horizon:Songwriters Collection 'Every single track is a gem in its own right although special mention has to go to Cry No More by Laura Evans and Wait by Marc Hamilton, whose songs are so good they seem wasted on open mic nights€¦I hope that the exposure they gain from this album will see some of them go on to bigger and better things.' (September 2006) New Zealand Musician Magazine June/July 2006 edtition quotes about On The Horizon:Songwriters Collection 'Here is a diverse group of talented artists whose songs you'll likely fall in love with. Actually, love in all its various forms, is the theme running through the songs here. From the beautiful opening Cry No More by Laura Evans, to the plaintive Wait by ex Mozelee front man Marc Hamilton, to Andrew Healy's moving Little King, plus new voices like Laura Downey and Matthew Mitchison. A homegrown gem' Liz Barry
