Thomas McDonald
I am a 24 yr old male, who has just relocated to Wellington. I have a lot of experience in theatre production, mostly as a theatre mechanist, and as a LX/ SX operator. I have also worked as a stage manager, assistant Stage Manager, Lighting Technician, Tour Manager, and Production Assistant. I studied theatre Production at CSU, Bathurst (NSW Australia) as a Major Part of my BA Communications (Theatre/Media) 2002-2005.
I have worked as a Casual Mechanist/ Stage hand for Sydney Theatre Company, Company B, Belvoir Street theatre Company, and Glen Street Theatre Company, which are all Located in Sydney, Australia. I have also worked as a mechanist for Sydney Festival- Sydney's annual Arts Festival, as part of the "Flying Squad" both in 2006 and 2008.
I also worked as a Permanent Part-Time Performer for Luna Park (sydney) for twelve months (2006- 2007), stilt walking, clowning and street performing between 20-40 hrs a week.
I have spent the last two years training to be a circus performer, at CircoArts (Christschurch, NZ) and just finished a four month regional tour of Rural North Island with Circus Aotearoa (www.circusaotearoa.co.nz) performing Doubles Trapeze and Physical Comedy.
I like theatre that is dangerous, theatre that takes risks and tries to do something new...
Circus/ Physical Theatre Skills:
- Good understanding/ ability of acrobatics
- Good base for acrobatics and adagio
- Strong comedic and performance skills
- Professional Corde Lisse (Rope) Artist ( I have a 5 minute routine)
- Professional Doubles Trapeze artist, Base. (I also have a 10 minute comedic Act, with partner Mac Islas)
- Competent juggling ability
- I have a lot of experience in clowning, and roving performance
- I am a competent and well experienced stilt walker
Theatre Production Skills:
- I have Production Managed Events before, and I have a solid understanding of production management.
- Well experienced with bump in/ bump outs, as well as tech runs, dress runs, and performing stage cues during show runs
- Understand and am experienced with rigging and focusing lights

In 2005 I wrote and directed a who-dunnit comedy called "Dick Edwards and the Case of the Colonel's Corpse" which was preformed as part of the "Sprung 05" festival at the Ponton Theatre, Bathurst.
In 2006, I was commissioned to create two latex commedia dell arte masks for Luna Park, Sydney
In 2008, I created and performed a Corde Lisse (Rope) routine, which was based around underwater movements. I also co-devised a comedy Doubles trapeze performance called "The Amazing Linguini Brothers" which I then toured rural north New Zealand with as part of "Circus Aotearoa"
I was one of the original performers for Circus Aotearoa, and toured for four months as a performer and tent hand in 2008. We also performed as part of the Rotorua Arts Festival and recieved good reviews and houses numbers!
