Jono Marshall

I have always had an interest in film and started making films in high school. I studied at the Waikato Institute of Technology and directed two short films there. While studying I developed an interest especially for musical film. I wrote and directed a musical film set in the 1980's for my third year grad project. I really like directing but also like being involved in the production and planning of films. My long term goal is to end up directing or producing feature films.

Key skills:

I enjoy many aspects of film production and have had experience in many areas.

I have written and directed several short films. The most recent being a musical set in the 80's as a oart of my graduate film at Wintec.

I was floor manager for a multi-cam shoot while studing at Wintec.

I have had experience in camera operation on several projects and live events including the Fieldays '08.

Slate and Set Construction

In mid 2007 I helped with set construction and decorating on the short film Cati: A New Zealand Fairytale and was slate on the production. This was an amazing experience as it was the first professional film I had been involved in with. We filmed on sets and locations so I got to see the difference of the two.

Camera Operator

As a part of my internship paper at Wintec I did both live and documentary camera operating for the Mystery Creek Fieldays 2008. This involved roaming camera work around the Fieldays site but also camera operating for the live screen. This helped me to think quickly in live situations where I was working in the public instead of a studio or set.

Tama Dean

Camera Operator

I was one of several camera operators for the live screen at Tama Dean’s Search for the Stars 2008 at Mystery Creek in Hamilton. This was a good experience because it helped me to develop my camera skills like using exposure, focus and zoom in a live situation.

The Producers

Runner

I was a runner for several episodes of Wheel of Fortune in 2008. I did tasks like getting food for the cast and crew from supermarkets, helping the audience co-ordinator with managing the audience and making sure the food units were topped up for the crew. I also got to see what a TV control room is like and got to be in the studio while filming which was an amazing experience.

Kinleith CHH paper Mill

Camera Operator

I was a camera operator for a corporate video for the Tokaroa Kinleith CHH paper mill that one of my classmates was payed to do. It was challenging as we had hard conditions to film in but it was also a good hands-on experience with a timeline that we had to adhere to.

Creative achievements:

I won the Excellence in filmmaking award in third year at Wintec
