Letter of reference for Edwina Stevens.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to offer my support to Edwina Stevens. This year I employed Edwina as a Teaching and Research assistant in the Electronic Arts Section of the School of Art. She quickly showed herself to be a most valuable member of staff. Her ease of delivery and confidence made the students at ease with both the most complex of problems and the most simple of troubles. As one senior student commented to me “Edwina gives me the confidence to try new things.” Edwina is skilled in many software applications, and can ably teach these to large groups as well as one‐on –one, additionally she is willing to sit down with the unfamiliar and demonstrate methods to uncover the mysteries of new programmes, and problem solve. It is the approach that has changed the way we do things here this year. Students are no longer afraid to try a new piece of software and feel comfortable experimenting. This is essential to an Art School and is certainly an approach that is of value in the gallery and creative sectors as well.
In addition Edie has proven herself as a very able website designer. She has built a fantastic site for None Gallery and whilst doing it has used this process to teach it to other students interested in building their own sites.
Her own art works have already been recognized and she was invited to screen a work as part of the
Aotearoa Digital Arts Symposium at Victoria University in Wellington this year. Her works are also in demand and she has co‐ordinated None Gallery’s exhibition at Artspace in Auckland and performed live at Artspace in support of the exhibition.
This level of achievement by a person only recently out of art school is unusual. Edwina is a skilled and friendly communicator. She has excellent research skills and her work is always critically framed and engaged with contemporary practice. When working with Edwina, I have been impressed by her consistently professional approach, and the seriousness dedication, and respect with which she involves herself in the New Zealand contemporary art scene.
I strongly support Edwina in her future endeavors as I can see that she has a lot to offer the art community, both in New Zealand and wider afield. There is always a need for young contemporary artists who are engaged with the arts community, and who have a broad knowledge of critical issues in art as well as a fantastic skill set to be able to share this with others; those people who are able to have an arts practice and work with others to enable things to happen. Edwina has the potential to be one of these new faces. Edwina has proven herself to be an able technician, teacher and communicator in the field of digital and new media arts.
I have every confidence that any project she tackles in the future will be a success. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
Yours Sincerely
Dr. Susan Ballard

Greetings.
Edie Stevens is an excellent effects editor who has been teaching advanced time-based
editing tools to our students for most of the last two years. She is engaging, intelligent,
highly organized and very creative. The many students she teaches here are enthusiastic
about the clear structure of her intensive courses as well as her ability to effortlessly
illustrate and explain complex post-production concepts clearly and engagingly.
She is very knowledgeable, we are very lucky to have her on our team, and I can highly
recommend her.
Regards,
David Green
To whom it may concern,
Edwina Stevens worked as a contract graphic designer for Forest & Bird in 2008, creating maps &
visual media for our newly re-vamped website. Over a period of three weeks in September, Edwina
created a suite of visual material for the website, from habitat maps to banner images. She proved to
be efficient, flexible, reliable & friendly. Her ability to listen to our requirements; her attention to
detail & her vast technical skills in this area meant that the visual materials were created to an
exceptional standard,
I would highly recommend her to any prospective employer,
If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me,
King regards
