Jandyra Maciel (Champa)
A passionate stage actor, trained in classical ballet, as well as six years of study in South Indian Classical Dance, Violin, singing and some piano studies. Upon completion of my VCE, I entered the University of Melbourne for a year before auditioning for the New Zealand School of Dance. From 2006-2007 I completed the National Certificate in Dance Performance at the School, and in 2008 completed my National Diploma. Since then, I have been an avid and passionate stage (and some film) actor, and have participated in several amateur productions including the title role in 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie', and Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'.
I am also a lover of literature, and currently freelance report for WormholeRiders News Agency (Web-based), where I write episodic reviews on the television show 'Sanctuary' and report on conventions. To this end, I have recently liased with Weta Workshop in reporting the launch of their book 'The Art of District 9'.

YOUNG CAST SHOW GREAT MATURITY
A fabulous piece of theatre, charming and articulate, that showcases the remarkable talents of a cast of young actors. The clever, witty script, full of prosperous announcements and popular phrases, was picked up with exuberance and maturity, and the delivery was the best ever from HaBYT, not rushed, carefully balanced and intelligent, excellent emphases reflecting an understanding of the characters that was a pleasure to watch and be absorbed in.
Without doubt, the extraordinary ability of the lead actor, Champa (Jandyra) Maciel, was more than equal to the task the character of Jean Brodie presented; her pace and controlled emotion showed skill beyond her years. She was supported by a fabulous performance by Mollie John as Sandy, whose poignant portrayal of a young woman growing up and seeing the cold truth was sensitive and moving.
Director Ken keys chose a particularly challenging play with huge social and political issues of the time, and it was simply uplifting to watch young people inject such energy and humour into it. The way scenes which involved some seriously adult content were tackled showed how far this theatre group have come and further reflected the maturity and seriousness of the cast.
Against a simple but effective set and with a meticulously detailed sound effects score, a powerful story unfolded.
This is a good fearless drama and one of the best things HaBYT has done.
Every word could be heard, the accents were convincing and clear, the costumes were well sourced and the individual characterisation was excellent all round. On occasion the actors' strident moves across the stage lacked a little shape and motivation but generally the on-stage groupings were charming and realistic.
A terrific play that deserves to be seen by many.
