Ten years ago I founded Art Ants - for art projects, in The Netherlands. I have since that time coordinated exhibitions, events, education & community projects, all in the field of visual arts & design. Sometimes for large National museums, sometimes for the local womans club.
Now we've moved to New Zealand, I hope to do the same here, doing what I love and what I am good at (organising) with people who are just as passionate about art as I am.
Organising, communicating, getting things done. And do them myself as well!
Hands-on approach, focussed and driven, but with time for fun and team spirit.
1993 - 1997: Visual Art & Design, specializing in Art & Media Management, Art Academy of Utrecht http://www.hku.nl/web/English/MastersProgrammes/MasterOfArtsInArtsManagement.htm

National Glass Museum – project leader (freelance work through Art Ants)
The transformation of a small museum (18.000 visitors and 3 ft in 2005) to a modern state-of-the art museum and glass blowing facility (85.000 visitors, 20 fte and 150 volunteers in 2010). Arnoud Odding is the director with the vision; I implemented his vision into a workable scheme for everyone involved and coordinated the output. For the Nationals Glass Museum I did the following:
- 4 exhibitions a year (about 18 large ones in total), including internationally travelling exhibitions. Hands-on and responsible for:
• research on the topic, content management, registration of the artworks, insurance issues
• exhibition design, communication with exhibition builders
• contact with lenders, artists, other museums/galleries (also international).
• outline the marketing strategy, educational package and volunteer and community involvement.
• events in weekends to connect to the local community and glass collectors
• keeping within budget, finding alternative funds & commercial sponsors
• production of the catalogue or book to go with the larger exhibitions, sometimes bilingual - International expo in Fort Asperen, a remote fortress. Responsibilities as above with extra attention to:
• exhibition design within the restrictions of the fort (confined spaces, dark, damp, remote)
• getting the artworks from all over the world through customs on time
• the timeframe of only six months - Opening of the National Glass Museum, with 7 exhibitions in one go, a new cafe, a new shop in a space tripled in size. Opened by the Dutch Queen, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix just six weeks after the contracted claimed the building was finished. Added to the fore mentioned responsibilities were:
• setting up a innovative computerized content management system for Ipod Touch: visitors get background information (movies, drawings, sound) on the artworks while walking through the museum
• liaison for the security service for the Queen, the fire department, local police and council
• organisation of two opening ceremonies in one day
• overall hands-on coordination of everything everyone was doing: the six weeks before the opening with 25-30 volunteers and 20 colleagues daily.
And this was just for the National Glass Museum. Have a look at my website: www.artants.co.nz for more projects!
