Wendy Chen
I am in my late 20s and have a conjoint BCom/LLB and a masters degree (law). I've worked for five years in both a top tier commercial law firm and in-house for a leading financial services provider. But I'm really passionate about music! So I've quit my job in order to put myself out there, and get some work experience in the arts. I am particularly keen for any opportunities relating to arts management, in a classical music context.
Excellent organisational skills
Logical thinking and multitasking are key skills for a busy lawyer. I have worked on numerous demanding projects, so I know how to deliver to deadlines and work in a team (sometimes with difficult people).
Good communicator
Key strengths in clear written and verbal communication have meant that I was a popular and trusted adviser. Being able to explain complex ideas in a way that the other person can understand requires seeing things from their perspective. I routinely received positive feedback in these respects from my clients.
Musical background
Through school I participated in numerous musical groups, winning awards at national level. I play flute, cello and a little piano and guitar. I have been a member of the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir (1999 - 2000) and the New Zealand Youth Choir (2002 - 2007), touring internationally twice and winning prestigious competitions. I have had leadership roles in many musical groups and these experiences have instilled a life-long interest in music, and I believe will give me the background to understand the demands of a professional musical organisation.
Fast learner
My strongest trait is that I am a fast learner. I am flexible, adaptable, curious and take a principled approach. I take calculated, educated risks and take responsibility for my actions. I use my initiative and creative problem solving skills to achieve the desired outcome.
