Sep 2000 to Jul 2004 B.A. Degree Fine Art (Grade 2.1) awarded 2004

Crawford College of Art and Design (CCAD), Cork, Ireland.

Major: Print Making, specialising in Digital Photography. Chemical and Darkroom

Photography also practiced as a subsidiary. Art history and appreciation also studied.

Thesis: “High Art in the Digital Age; recent work by Andreas Gursky and Bill Viola and its cultural context”.

My thesis explored the idea that artists are responding to the rise in creative technology by producing new high end work. I examined how early video art was received, and how new media work is now a major force of contemporary art practice.

For my degree exhibition, I produced a series of photographs based on media coverage of September 11th.

The body of work was a tongue-in-cheek response a notion that among our culture of instant reporting and media coverage, imagery is a very powerful tool. My work was also selected for inclusion in a national exhibition of recent graduates.

Reviews:

February 2012

To Whom It May Concern:

Imagelab is a full service commercial photographic laboratory, large format digital imaging and display graphics company, servicing a wide range of clients throughout New Zealand. Gary Moynihan has been employed by Imagelab from March 2008 through to February 2012. Gary’s initial position with Imagelab was within our digital department.

In this position Gary was responsible for design services, pre-flighting incoming work, digital retouching and restoration, high res scanning on both Durst and Imacon equipment and digital camera scans from reflection art on our Phase 1 camera back. He also worked with “Piction”, Imagelab’s online digital asset management software.

Gary is extremely proficient in the use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign - and his work has always been of the highest standard. He consistently accepts responsibility, handles pressure and meets deadlines.

Due to a company restructure in late 2009 Gary’s position was incorporated to include a significant front counter customer service role, which he accepted willingly. As well as continuing his previous tasks, this position also involved customer liaison and advice, telephone enquiries, setting up of incoming jobs, dispatch of completed work and other general laboratory duties. This job is regarded as one of the most demanding in the lab and Gary performed it with accuracy, courtesy and all round distinction.

Gary has been a very special employee. He is always a happy and positive member of our team and it has been a pleasure to have him as part of our Company. He has great people skills and goes out of his way to treat every customer and staff member with a smile and friendly attitude. He has shown an exceptional ability to be in control and to be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time competently I have no hesitation in recommending Gary to any prospective employer as a hardworking, honest, reliable and very capable person.

Yours sincerely

Don Sharpe,

Director, Imagelab Ltd
