Basia Smolnicki

Basia Smolnicki is a printmaker, sandblasted glass artist and art educator living and working in Wellington. Her bold graphic style reflects her Polish heritage grounded in contemporary New Zealand culture. Ancient myths and legends combine with local flora and fauna to create striking narratives rich with symbolism that explore place and identity.

Key skills: 

Basia teaches printmaking at tertiary levels at Wellington Massey and Victoria University and community art classes at Inverlochy Art School and Artsight, Toi Poneke Wellington. She has her own print workshop at Shelley Bay where she prints and tutors private individuals or small groups specialist print topics. Sandblasted glass & mirror designs are commissioned  from the home studio in Newtown shared with architect husband Paul Kerr-Hislop.
