Feral Sundown

04 Sept - 11 Oct, 2026
Waiheke Art Gallery
Feral Sundown

Hannah Maurice and Madison Carroll present Feral Sundown, an exhibition of new paintings and ceramics.

"...These paintings explore the idea of becoming feral, transitioning from a domestic state to a wild or partially wild state of mind and being. Feral is a word used for some pest animals and perjoritively for marginal people, it has dirty and dangerous connotations, nonconformity is often mistrusted and maligned. In this context I used the word because it describes the common denominator of my painted personages, they are all returning to some kind of autonomous twilight state..." - Hannah Maurice

"...This ceramic exhibition is composed of imagined botanies. Drawn from my archive of flora and fauna images, I create hybrid floral forms that feel simultaneously familiar and otherworldly.

A Frankenstein of botanical fragments that transcend literal representation in favour of speculative possibility.

Through my work I try to create a place for wonder of life on other worlds governed by unknown sciences. Organisms that could plausibly exist somewhere beyond our atmosphere.
The exhibition would occupy a liminal space between documentation and invention, science and fantasy..." - Madison Carroll
