MATHEW HAYES
ASSORTED FRAGMENTS

with Judi Clements of Crone Jewellery.

12 March - 3 April 2022

‘I grew up in West Auckland and used to draw flames and patterns at school. In my 20’s my mum stopped her house painting business and the shed was full of leftover paint so I decided to experiment. I have had no formal art training but I love art and creating. I also have a love of gardening and the natural world and being sustainable is important to me so I re-use old paints and canvases and frames which I find at op shops.
My favourite painters are Van Gogh, Jean Michel Basquiat, Frida Kahlo and Francis Bacon but I also love cartoons and anime.
This is my first solo exhibition and I am determined to have more.
Thank you for your support.’

Alongside Mathew we are excited to have Judi Clements of Crone Jewellery.

Crone jewellery, inspired by the magic of nature, the circles of life, the beauty of home, the mystery of feathers, the treasures of the sea...

Judi is a Titirangi based jeweller that creates natural forms cast in silver and bronze. Bone and horn and found magical and mundane objects become physical manifestations of spirit that connects the wearer to the natural world.
