The walls of The New Zealand Room at Venice Biennale have been adorned by panels designed and car

Featured at Judy Millar’s venue, La Maddalena, The New Zealand Room at Venice Biennale is a meeting place for visitors to explore New Zealand’s contemporary art, culture, literature and design.

The walls have been adorned by panels commissioned especially for the New Zealand Room, designed and carved by highly regarded Maori artist George Nuku.  In this video he talks about his work.

The room also features contemporary art and design from Kennedy Brown, Candywhistle, Jamie McLellan, David Trubridge, David Moreland and Chris Bailey.  Also included will be some of New Zealand’s iconic literature showcasing our fresh and vibrant Pacific identity through architecture, visual art, film, music and performing arts.

Books in the New Zealand Room are provided courtesy of Te Papa Press, Penguin New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission, Gecko Press, Huia Press and Judy Millar.
