With a strong musical tradition, the Christchurch Cathedral Choir has contributed uninterrupted service since 1881, and presently sings six choral services in the Cathedral each week in term time. The choir is the only fully professional choir for trebles and adults in New Zealand and one of only two Anglican cathedral choirs in the Southern Hemisphere with its own choir school.

The Cathedral requires a highly competent and experienced Director for the Girl Choristers to work with this high performance team.
The duties of Director of the Girl Chorister will include:
· Conducting Girl Choristers at the Cathedral for services and rehearsals at which they are singing;
· Conducting the Girl Choristers’ rehearsals on Tuesday to Friday at 8.00am at the Cathedral Grammar School;
· Working with the Cathedral Director of Music to select a repertoire for the Girls to sing and devise a music list for scheduled services;
· Being the main point of contact for the parents of the Girl Choristers and to maintain good communications among those parents;
· Attending and assisting in rehearsals at the annual choir camp.
The contractor will have:
· Demonstrated experience directing choirs, preferably with children's or youth choirs
· Sufficient keyboard skills to lead rehearsals from piano/organ
· A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate
· A good understanding of Anglican liturgy, music and choral tradition
· Excellent written and oral skills
