Atarangi Anderson (Te Aitanga a Hauiti, Ngāti Hauiti) is a multidisciplinary artist and kiriaute practitioner whose work spans painting and aute barkcloth making, grounded deeply in whakapapa, mātauranga Māori and the interconnected relationships between people and the natural world.

Holding both a Bachelor of Creative Enterprise and a Master of Creative Practice from Unitec, Atarangi’s growing practice has been featured in exhibitions including He Wahine, He Aute (Unitec, 2024), Ngā Mata Aute (Grace, 2025), and Hine Whakamauāhua (Laree Payne, 2025).

Central to her practice is the concept of onamata and anamata as a methodology, centering a non linear understanding of time that connects past, present and future in one continual conversation. Through aute, painting and material process, Atarangi explores the relationships between people, whenua and trees, creating works that speak to reciprocity, balance and the enduring connections that bind us across generations.
