Auckland Botanic Gardens wedding and private event sites concessionaire

Auckland Botanic Gardens is a 5-star garden of national significance (New Zealand Gardens Trust) and sees over a million visitors a year. A jewel in the crown of Tāmaki Makaurau, this spectacular South Pacific Botanic Garden is widely recognised for its outstanding plant collections, Auckland regional identity and connecting people with plants.

Beloved by the local community, Aucklanders and visitors from further afield, it has been a popular place for people to gather for weddings and special events since its opening to public in 1982, and there is a real opportunity here to increase the amount and variety of event bookings and introduce packages. 

The primary purpose of Auckland Botanic Gardens is to hold documented plant collections for the purpose of scientific research, conservation, display, education, recreation and wellbeing. We provide services that connect people with the value of plants.  

As part of our service delivery, we offer public the ability to hire a site/s for private functions such as a wedding, family function, community or corporate use.   

The Gardens has 4 designated bookable outdoor sites for private events. The lush plantings, thoughtful landscaping, structures and pathways are beautifully maintained by the horticultural staff, which will continue when the new concessionaire is in place. The bookings and onsite event support are currently serviced by the visitor services team onsite, which will then transition to being the responsibility of the new concessionaire as part of the contract.

Auckland Botanic Gardens is seeking an experienced concessionaire to provide end-to-end event management of four premium outdoor event sites: The Glade, Rock Garden, Edible Walled Garden and Herb Garden. The successful operator will manage bookings, customer enquiries, payments, marketing, event coordination, manage a portfolio of preferred suppliers, site compliance and event delivery, while protecting the gardens and ensuring a high-quality visitor experience.

The objective is to increase activation, visitation and revenue opportunities while reducing operational pressures on Gardens staff and improving customer experience through a professional event management service and various packages to customers.
