Open Studio's Project - Artist Residency

Located in the heart of Rotorua, The Arts Village is a vibrant, community-driven arts centre that offers something for everyone. We provide a welcoming space where locals and visitors can connect, create, and be inspired.

From exhibitions, workshops, and community events to artist residencies, family-friendly activities, and artisan markets — there’s always something happening at The Arts Village. Home to local arts and cultural groups, our purpose-built centre features three galleries, a pottery studio, co-op art shop, and a cosy on-site café.

Whether you’re an artist, art lover, or just curious, come and explore the creative energy that makes The Arts Village a proud and unique part of Rotorua’s cultural landscape.

We are looking for innovative artists with a cool art idea to take up a shared studio residency at The Arts Village over December 2026 and January 2027. The Residency has been delivered in various forms since 2011 and focuses on providing artists with studio space, materials, and a broad brief for projects that offer artistic enrichment for both the individual artist and our wider community.

The Arts Village is a significant community art space in Rotorua with a long history of growing Rotorua through the arts. Our vision is for Rotorua to be a vibrant, creative community, where art makes life good. 

Over the past 15 years, the Open Studios Project has been an important part of our mahi, supporting 66 artists in residence.  At least four artists will be selected this year.
