About our organisation
Public Art Omokoroa is an Incorporated Society with 50 members, that promotes and undertakes Public Art Projects in Omokoroa.
To date it has completed six public installations which have been gifted to Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
A new project for 2026 is Symposium at the Point, which will run alongside the Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival which attracts visitors from all parts of New Zealand. The vision for the Symposium is a working artists studio across 10 days where the community and the public can view the development and completion of artworks that respond to the histories of people and place.
The selector and writer of the exhibitions curatorial framework is Darcell Apelu, Senior Academic and Creative lead at Toi Ohomai, Tauranga.
Programme Overview
Artists are invited to submit a one page expression of interest before May 31. The submission process must include name, address, email address and any social media links. The concept for the work. Images or drawings. Key logistical factors relating to installation.
It is envisaged 10-12 artists will be selected for the symposium and completed drawings will be required by 30 July.
We invite expressions of interest for works in progress or newly conceived works that engage with Omokoroa and the curatorial kaupapa that acknowledges and responds to histories, relationships and whenua of Omokoroa
