The title of this exhibition combines words found in a photograph of Christchurch railway station, with the invitation to use the collections to explore the reaches of the world and the imagination.
The Broken River Train station provided a temporary terminus for travel to the Christchurch exhibition of 1906. The Broken River Train exhibition provides a terminus for those to whom the road beckons.
The images from the Alexander Turnbull Library featured in this exhibition range freely, the result of turning thousands of images over in the mind and considering the many sides and directions of travel; subjecting the collections to the partial and serendipitous scrutiny of the passionate collection adventurer on the pathway of life.
