Matariki 2026

Celebrate Matariki at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre with a vibrant programme of performance (irirangi), music and waiata, visual art (toi ataata), kōrero, and whānau-friendly activities from 4–12 Hōngongoi July.

The festival is headlined by TIGER · DRAGON · HORSES (10 July), an extraordinary trilogy of dance films and live performance blending hip hop, electronic music, taonga pūoro, and the traditions of Japan and Aotearoa by Good Company Arts. Other highlights include Ka Pō, Ka Ao - Waiata by the Fire, an intimate concert featuring Project Miere and special guests (11 July), acclaimed Ōtautahi musician Mona Vasa in the Great Hall (11 July), dynamic kapa haka performances with Ngā Toi o Te Rangi (12 July), and the Matariki Mākete, bringing together more than 60 local artisans, food vendors, and live entertainment across two magical evenings on the 10 and 11 July.

You can also take part in creative wānanga, from traditional kite-making to whetū harakeke weaving for tamariki (ages 8-12), while a diverse programme of exhibitions, artist talks, panel discussion, astronomy lectures, waiata, and multimedia performances offers opportunities for reflection, learning, and connection.

Bring your friends and whānau for an unforgettable celebration of the Māori New Year.

Events are free, low cost or entry by koha.
