Artistic Director (Programme Lead)

Glass Ceiling is a national performing arts charity creating opportunities for everyone, including Disabled, neurodivergent and non-disabled people, to learn, create and perform together. Through shared participation, we foster belonging, develop confidence and strengthen communities. We’re based in Auckland, with programmes operating across Auckland, Whangārei, Tauranga and Christchurch. Our programmes include weekly classes, productions, sensory experiences, films, and creative projects that celebrate diversity and artistic excellence.

You will inspire artists, tutors and participants to realise their creative potential, ensuring every programme reflects Glass Ceiling's commitment to creativity, diversity and artistic excellence. 

As Artistic Director, you will provide the creative leadership for Glass Ceiling, developing and delivering an inspiring artistic vision that brings everyone, including Disabled, neurodivergent and non-disabled people, together through high-quality performing arts experiences. You will champion artistic excellence while fostering participation, inclusion and belonging, creating communities where everyone can contribute and thrive.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide artistic leadership across all Glass Ceiling programmes.Curate and deliver an annual programme of classes, productions, performances, sensory theatre experiences, films and creative projects.Lead, mentor and develop tutors, artists and creative teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and artistic growth.

- Recruit, onboard and support tutors, class administrators, artists, production staff and volunteers.

- Create equitable opportunities for Disabled, neurodivergent and non-disabled artists, tutors and production staff to develop their practice and contribute to Glass Ceiling's artistic programme.

- Support organisational planning, policies, safeguarding, risk management and health and safety.

- Build and nurture partnerships across the arts, disability, education and community sectors.

- Strengthen Glass Ceiling's national profile as a leader in community performing arts that brings people together through shared participation.

- Represent Glass Ceiling as an artistic spokesperson and advocate.

We're looking for an inspiring, empathetic and collaborative leader who combines artistic vision with a passion for inclusion and accessibility in the arts. You'll be an excellent communicator who enjoys developing people, building partnerships and bringing ambitious creative ideas to life.

We are open to exploring an arrangement that works for the successful candidate while meeting the needs of Glass Ceiling. As Glass Ceiling operates programmes across Aotearoa, the role will involve occasional travel to visit classes, meet with tutors and participants, attend performances and connect with our wider communities.
