Mō mātou | About us

Auckland Writers Festival Waituhi o Tāmaki is New Zealand's largest literary festival and works closely with the New Zealand Book Awards Trust to deliver the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. We're seeking a highly organised Festival & Awards Coordinator to support awards administration, Festival delivery and event management. This flexible part-time role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to New Zealand's literary sector.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

This is a unique opportunity to work across two of Aotearoa New Zealand's most respected literary organisations. As Festival & Awards Coordinator, you'll provide administrative, event and operational support to Auckland Writers Festival throughout the year while coordinating the annual administration of the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards on behalf of the New Zealand Book Awards Trust.

The role is varied and hands-on, combining administration, project coordination and event delivery. You'll work with publishers, authors, judges, partners and audiences, helping to ensure projects run smoothly, deadlines are met and key milestones are delivered successfully. Responsibilities range from managing Awards processes, judges liaison and stakeholder communications to supporting Festival events and audience engagement.

We're looking for someone who has strong attention to detail and can confidently manage multiple projects at once. You'll be comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment. Strong communication skills, initiative and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed will help you thrive in this role.

This is a permanent part-time position of approximately 16 hours per week. The pattern of work is flexible with hours to be agreed and potentially spread across a number of days. Because the role supports both the Festival and Awards programmes, the focus of the work shifts throughout the year. There are busier periods around major Awards announcements and ceremony delivery, as well as in the lead-up to Auckland Writers Festival, balanced by quieter periods that offer greater flexibility.

We're a small, passionate team committed to creating meaningful cultural experiences and celebrating the very best of books and authors. If you enjoy varied work, love bringing order to complexity and want to contribute to projects that connect people through books, stories and ideas, we'd love to hear from you.
