Project 100 is an artist-run contemporary gallery and project space in Whakatū Nelson. As a charitable trust, we provide a commission-free platform for artists and curators to experiment, take creative risks, and realise ambitious projects outside of a commercial gallery context. Through our exhibitions, events and public programmes, we aim to support contemporary practice and create opportunities for meaningful engagement between artists and audiences.

Project 100 is inviting proposals from emerging and established curators & recent graduates for our 2027 exhibition programme. Both solo and collaborative projects are welcome.
There are two residency opportunities available:
- May 2027 – Recent Graduates Exhibition Programme
- November 2027 – Curators Exhibition Programme
Each opportunity offers one month of exclusive use of the Project 100 gallery in Whakatū Nelson to realise an exhibition, public programme, or experimental project. We're seeking ambitious, conceptual and contemporary proposals that push boundaries, test new ideas, and create meaningful experiences outside of a commercial gallery context.
We welcome applications across all contemporary art disciplines and encourage collaborative projects that bring together artists, ideas, and communities.
As an artist-run space, residents are expected to be actively involved throughout the exhibition period. This includes opening the gallery during our regular public hours and delivering at least one additional public activation, such as an artist talk, workshop, performance, workshop, or discussion.
What we provide
- Exclusive use of the Project 100 gallery for one month
- Accommodation in our central-city apartment for one month
- Administrative and promotional support
- Up to four hours of technician support
- A travel & food stipend of up to $1000
Artists retain creative responsibility for the development and delivery of their project and are expected to be based in Whakatū Nelson for the duration of their exhibition.
Please note that this residency is designed as an opportunity to present an exhibition or public programme, rather than develop new work on site. However, depending on the nature of your practice there may also be scope to work from the gallery during the exhibition period. Please discuss this with the Project 100 team as part of your proposal.

How to apply
Who Can Apply?
Recent Graduates Exhibition Programme (May 2027)
Open to artists who have graduated from a tertiary arts programme within the past two years, preferably from a New Zealand institution. This opportunity is intended to support outstanding emerging practitioners who demonstrate a strong conceptual proposal and the ability to independently realise an exhibition or public programme.
Curators Exhibition Programme (November 2027)
Open to emerging and established curators, independent practitioners, and collectives based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Previous curatorial experience is welcomed but not essential. We encourage applications from those with ambitious ideas and a clear vision for engaging audiences through contemporary exhibition-making.
