Wellington City Council delivers Christmas celebrations centred around four events  over consecutive weekends in November to December. Surrounding activities include city theming with four centrally located Christmas trees and a touring road show that extends into some of the outer suburbs.

We are seeking to source a suitable, locally based, event production company to co-design, develop, source, manage delivery and support all required event elements across a range of city activations that celebrate Christmas in Wellington, and enter into an agreement to deliver these over the next 3 years (budget permitting).

The design will engage Wellington’s identity, visibility of te reo Māori, and inclusive, family focused experiences. Beginning in late November 2026, operating through mid-December 2026 with staged activations and signature moments (performances, roaming and static installations).

We require this series of events to be delivered by an event production company in a “turnkey” model (i.e. delivery by a single supplier responsible for supplying, managing and delivering all required elements from start to finish) by a supplier with a proven track record in running large-scale, professional events where contracting suppliers, performers and paid (i.e not volunteer) resourcing is required.

Please note, we are not seeking expressions of interest or bids from performers, or other suppliers who deliver services other than producing and delivering the entire event package. Expressions of interest for these services will be rejected and also not passed on to the successful bidder.

How to apply

To apply for this opportunity, you must be able to answer Yes, and be able to evidence your ability to meet the following 4 pre-conditions.

If you cannot answer yes to all 4 of the below, your application will not be accepted for further consideration:


1.           Your company must be based in the Wellington Region (i.e have a local, staffed, registered office)

2.         You  must have managed at least 1 similar-scale public event with a budget of over $300k and events with participation over 5,000 people. Note: you will be required to provide case studies to evidence this as part of your response.

3.         You must hold current professional liability insurance valued at a minimum of $5m.

4.         You must have Living Wage commitment for all employees and contractors (as this will be included in the contract).
